Helping Hand Relief Activities for IDPs

Severity of the IDPs Crisis
An estimated 2.5 million people are displaced from the military operation areas. Thousands of families are scattered and many of them with their host families and rented houses in the nearby areas. Some of the families have been settled with their relatives in different parts of the country.

People are fleeing from the areas only in curfew breaks. Moreover, the population in operation areas facing threats to their lives and seeking for humanitarian assistance. Severe food shortages and other basic requirements are needs to be addressed.

The displaced people have lost their homes, livelihoods, and livestock. Due to worst security situation women and children are in extreme stress and psychiatric conditions. There is an effective need of strategy chalking out to provide safe and secure settlement with hygiene, drinking water and health facilities.













Helping Hand Relief Activities for IDPs


Helping Hand is making its substantial efforts to provide relief to the internally displaced persons in terms of food, utensils, bedding, tents and medical care since May 03, 2009 as the operation started in Swat, Buner and Dir districts of NWFP, Pakistan.

Helping Hand team consisting of professional field staff and volunteers is efficiently working on different projects for providing relief to the IDPs living in camp and with host families.


Helping Hand has distributed relief goods in the IDPs of Rashakai (Nowshehra) and Skhakot Malkand Agency settled with the host families. The detail of the relief goods for each family is as under:


  • Water Coolers
  • Hand Fans
  • Hygiene Kits
  • Plastic Utensils Set
  • Food Package
  • Mates
  • Children Clothes

It is essential to provide assistance to the IDPs with the host families. Host families have a great contribution in the recent humanitarian crisis of IDPs. Helping Hand has carry out an assessment of IDPs living in different surrounding areas of district Rawalpindi. After the identification of 30 IDP families living in Haji camp area of district Rawalpindi, Helping Hand field staff has completed need assessment and distributed relief items. Details of relief items are as under:

  • Food Package
  • Mates
  • Clothes
  • Bedding
